KANSAS

Drilling in Kansas first began in the early 1860’s in Miami County. Efforts were economically unproductive because natural gas was not popular until the 1890’s. It wasn’t until 1915 in the El Dorado oil field that Kansas became a significant state of oil production. Kansas was also the first state to effectively use geologists to map out oil pockets.

Today, Kansas has produced more than 6.7 billion barrels of oil and 41.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas
